The event, given by the Magic Circle Opera Repertory Ensemble, will take place at 8 PM. Merkin Concert Hall is located at 129 W. 67th Street in Manhattan. Also expected to attend are opera star Delores Ziegler, stage actress Lisa Vroman and arts administrator Schuyler Chapin. The artists will perform two of Rorem's one act operas, Four Dialogues and A Childhood Miracle. Also, The Stan Tucker Vocal Ensemble will debut three new choral settings of Rorem's art songs, and perform excerpts from "Four Madrigals," "From an Unknown Past" and "Little Prayers." Kudisch and Vroman will appear in Four Dialogues, singing the words of poet Frank O'Hara. Albee, meanwhile, will speak at a tribute to his contemporary.
Rorem, a towering and notorious figure throughout the latter half of 20th century American music, has penned more than 600 compositions, and is best known for his art songs. However, he may still be most recognized for the candid and scandalous memoirs he published early in his life.
Marc Kudisch is currently starring in the Off-Broadway musical comedy, The Thing About Men.
All seats are $60. For reservations call (212) 501-3330.
