The show had begun its Monday performance schedule on July 12 and was originally scheduled to close Aug. 30. A portion of the proceeds go to one of several charitable organizations including The Elton John AIDS Foundation, Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC), Servicemembers Legal Defense Network and The Point Foundation. Wolf won an Obie and was nominated for the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for his Off-Broadway performance of Another American at The New Group; Tony winner Joe Mantello directed. The show, according to press notes, "takes the audience on a national tour of sexual politics, the American military, sanctioned discrimination, and its human fallout. Distilled from over 150 interviews with straight, gay and lesbian military personnel (from World War II veterans to anonymous servicemembers serving today), in addition to civil rights lawyers, federal judges, professors and politicians, Wolf portrays a community of characters struggling with the government's ban on gays and lesbians in the armed forces."
