Classic Arts News Maria Callas Letters to Be Auctioned in London A series of opera star Maria Callas's letters goes on sale at Christie's London on November 30, Reuters reports.
The set includes letters that illuminate Callas's bitter disagreement with the management of the Metropolitan Opera. In a letter to Rudolf Bing, dated four days before he announced he was firing her, she wrote, "Do you make your judgments with the brain of some little fool or rather with your own brain?"

Other letters provide insight into the soprano's rivalry with Renata Tebaldi, which both singers claimed was fabricated by the press, and her views on television, about which she wrote, "I hate opera on the little screen done by people with no taste at all."
