Classic Arts News Marilyn Horne Receives Honorary Doctorate From Manhattan School of Music The Manhattan School of Music presented Marilyn Horne, the legendary American mezzo-soprano and educator, with an honorary doctorate at its fall convocation yesterday afternoon.
Before an assembly of MSM students, faculty and board members as well as friends of the singer, school president Robert Sirota said, "Marilyn Horne, for your innumerable achievements in the operatic world, your contributions to vocal arts, and for your inestimable gifts to the lives of your students, colleagues, and audiences, Manhattan School of Music is pleased to present you with the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts, honoris causa."
