News Mario Cantone and Ralph Macchio Starring in Off-Broadway World Premiere "Sex and the City"'s Mario Cantone and the original "Karate Kid," Ralph Macchio, are tapped to headline the world premiere of A Room of My Own, written and directed by Charles Messina. The new comedy looks at New York City life in the late 1970's.

The Off-Broadway production will begin previews Feb. 13, 2016, in the June Havoc Theatre with an official opening night set for Feb. 25. The engagement, presented by Abingdon Theatre Company, will run through March 13.

In A Room of My Own Messina recalls his childhood with his eccentric Italian-American family in Greenwich Village. Macchio plays Carl Morelli, who, according to press notes, is "a writer who reminisces about his adolescence and childhood dreams of the world outside his crowded downtown tenement. Wishing for his own room—and an Atari—young Carl shares the tiny studio in a five-flight crumbling walk-up apartment with his unemployed father, older sister, and strong-willed mother." Cantone will portray his flamboyant uncle Jackie.

Additional casting is to be announced. The production includes set design by Brian Dudkiewicz; costume design by Catherine Siracusa; lighting design by Mike Megliola; sound design by Ian Wehrle; and casting by Lori Malkin. Production stage manager is Deidre Works.
