Mark R. Shapiro's Holocaust-themed thriller, Retribution, will close after its Nov. 10 performance at Off-Broadway's Lamb's Theatre, it was announced hours before the show.

Producers Jadbro Productions had announced a Nov. 7 closing last week, but hoped for word of mouth, and a handful of favorable notices (among more powerful negative ones), to jump-start ticket buying and allow a longer run for the Dennis Christopher ("Breaking Away") vehicle. That hope was apparently not bright enough.

Critics did not embrace the dark three-act play, which began previews Oct. 14 and had its official opening Oct. 24. It will have played 12 previews and 19 regular performances by the Nov. 10 close.

Jadbro Productions produced the drama, based on the novel, "Who Shall Live, Who Shall Die," by Daniel Stern. Michael Unger directed.

The drama also starred Jack Laufer and featured Jenna Stern, Walter Hudson, Paul Stolarsky and Stuart Zagnit. Narelle Sissons designed the sets, Candice Donnelly designed the costumes, Christopher J. Landy was the lighting designer and David Lynd designed sound for the production. -- By Kenneth Jones
