A Cherry Orchard will grow in the desert of Santa Fe, New Mexico, as Marsha Mason stars as Madame Ranevskaya in Santa Fe Stages' new mounting of the Chekhov classic. The production will run July 21 to Aug. 5.

Mason has starred on stage in such works as Amazing Grace, but is best know for her film work. Among her best known credits are "The Goodbye Girl," "Only When I Laugh," "Chapter Two" and "Cinderella Liberty." Mason will play the feckless, frivolous mistress of a Russian estate, who is forced to sell her family's cherished orchard in order to pay off the debts of the estate.

No director or co-stars have been named for the production, which will play at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.
