The 8 PM reading will serve as a benefit for both the Geffen Playhouse and the addiction treatment center Hazelden. The remaining cast for Bill W. and Dr. Bob will be announced shortly.

A post-show Q&A and reception will follow the benefit performance.

Jenny Sullivan directs the play, which, according to the Geffen, "recounts the story of Bill Wilson and Dr. Robert Smith, two men whose friendship ultimately led to the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous. Together with their wives, who went on to develop Al-Anon Family Groups, their discoveries have touched and saved countless lives since the program’s inception."

Bill W. and Dr. Bob premiered Off-Broadway in 2007 at New World Stages and is preserved on DVD. The work has toured the U.S.

The play is slated to return Off-Broadway during the 2011-2012 season, for an open-ended, non-profit run at a 199-seat theatre. The Hazelden Foundation is sponsoring the run.

Sheen most recently played President Josiah Bartlett on the NBC-TV series "The West Wing," which earned him six Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor. He is also known for his role as Capt. Willard in "Apocalypse Now."
