Short will this spring star in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, the new Broadway-bound show conceived by Tony Award winner Short and Hairspray's Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The show will play Toronto's Canon Theatre May 27-July 2, in addition to the previously announced engagements at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, April 25-May 21, 2006, and Chicago at the LaSalle Bank Theatre July 5-16.
The "musical mock-autobiography" will open Aug. 10 at a Shubert theatre to be named. The production features music by Shaiman, lyrics by Wittman and Shaiman and direction by Wittman. Shaiman, who will musical direct, will also be seen onstage. Wittman and Shaiman's Fame Becomes Me score includes such tunes as "Stepbrother de Jesus," "12 Step Pappy" and "Sniff, Sniff."
