News Marvel, Welch, Raffo, Hecht, Fraser and Lopez to Read New Orestes Translation at 92nd Street Y Elizabeth Marvel, Christopher Evan Welch, Paul Hecht, Heather Raffo, Alison Fraser and Priscilla Lopez will star in a staged reading of Anne Carson's new translation of Euripides' Greek tragedy Orestes at the 92nd Street Y April 30 at 8 PM.

David Esbjornson directs a cast that also includes Eliza Foss, Cheyenne Casebier, James Gale, Gina Leishman, Erik Heger, Jeffrey Steitzer and Yusef Bulos. According to press notes, "Orestes, which was written by Euripides circa 408 B.C.E., explores the aftermath of a man's decision to commit matricide for what he sees as a just cause, and how it affects everyone around him. In accordance with the advice of the Greek god Apollo, Orestes has killed his mother in order to avenge her murder of his father. Orestes is plagued by guilt and madness over the murders, and is comforted by his sister, Electra. To complicate matters further, a leading political faction wants to put Orestes to death for the murder."

The event is a production of All Poets' Theatre, which are produced by the 92nd Street Y Unterberg Poetry Center.
