News Mary Poppins Flies Into Alabama Shakespeare Festival Tonight The Alabama Shakespeare Festival production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins plays the Montgomery venue July 16-Aug. 3.

Directed by Geoffrey Sherman with choreography by Karen Azenberg, the cast is headed by Alice Sherman in the title role and Broadway's Bret Shuford as Bert.

Alternating in the roles of Jane and Michael Banks are Katie Cobb, Lucy Wilson, Caleb Campbell and Will Chieves with David Schmittou as George Banks and Jean McCormick as Winifred Banks.

Other principals in the cast include Barbara Broughton (Katy Nana/Bird Woman), Rodney Clark (Admiral Boom/Bank Chairman), Toni Dibuono (Mrs. Brill), Billy Sharpe (Robertson Ay/Northbrook) and Barbara Tirrell (Miss Andrew/Mrs. Correy). The ensemble comprises Jessica Azenberg, Christian Castro, Ashley Carlson, Jessica Lee Coffman, Lenny Daniel, Richard Gatta, Camden Gonzales, Linda Griffin, David Holmes, Matthew Kiernan, Christina King, Justin Keats, Melissa Manning and Adam Pelegrine.

Mary Poppins features original music by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman, book by Julian Fellowes and new songs and additional music by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. In the story, according to press notes, "rambunctious siblings Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again."

The creative team also includes Tom Griffin (musical director), Peter Hicks (set design), Brenda Van Der Wiel (costume design) and Joe Payne (sound design). Ruth Kramer serves as stage manager.
