News Mary Stuart Opens at London's Donmar July 20 Having had a distinctly American flavor for a while, producing Guys and Dolls in the West End and Neil LaBute’s This Is How It Goes at its Covent Garden base, the Donmar Warehouse has gone European again with a Schiller revival.

Harriet Walter’s Elizabeth I will face Janet McTeer’s Mary in Schiller’s Mary Stuart, which opens July 20. The show is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, whose previous Donmar shows include Boston Marriage and Threepenny Opera, and whose work in the West End and beyond includes the immensely successful Mamma Mia!. The play, whose last major London revival was at the National Theatre (where it starred Anna Massey and Isabelle Huppert), has been given a new version by Peter Oswald.

It follows hot on the heels of the hit staging of Schiller’s Don Carlos (directed by the Donmar’s artistic director Michael Grandage), which transferred from Sheffield to London’s Gielgud Theatre. Mary Stuart plays through Sept. 3, 2005.

The cast includes David Burke as Talbot, James Fleet as Amyss Paulet, Barbara Jefford as Hannah Kennedy and Rory Kinnear as Mortimer. For more information, call (0)870 060 6624.
