The staging was created in 1995 by director and conductor Walter Haupt as an open-air production; in 2002, stage designer Mihail Tchernaev converted it into an indoor spectacle, complete with light show, pyrotechnics, jousting knights in armor, and a 43-foot stage tower. It includes more than 200 performers, including 30 dancers, orchestra, choir, and soloists.
According to the show's producers, Carmina Burana Monumental Opera has been seen by more than 800,000 people in Europe and South America. It visited Mexico City in September.
