News Matilda Star's New Film Opens in NY Special Tony Award recipient Oona Laurence, one of the original stars of Matilda The Musical on Broadway, stars in the new independent film "Lamb," opening in limited release Jan. 8.

The film adaptation of Bonnie Nadzam's debut novel was written and is directed by Ross Partridge.

Partridge stars as David Lamb, a man on a road trip from Chicago to the Rockies on a mission of self-discovery after his father dies and his marriage ends.

Laurence, who received a Special Tony Award for her performance as the precocious title character in Matilda The Musical, plays an 11-year-old girl named Tommie, who is described as awkward and unpopular and whom David is determined to help. Jess Weixler ("The Good Wife," "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby") is also featured in the cast.

Laurence has appeared in "A Little Game," "Louie" and "The Grief of Others." Partridge co-created the web series "Wedlock," starring Rob Corddry, with Mark Duplass.

The film will appear on VOD on Jan. 12. The film is being distributed by The Orchard.
