Bubble Boy, which was recently seen at the Wolfbane Productions Performing Arts Center in Appomattox, VA, comes to New York City for a concert production November 9 at Feinstein’s/54 Below starring Matt Doyle and Tony winner Alice Ripley.
The musical, which features music and lyrics by Cinco Paul and a book by Paul and Ken Daurio, is based on the 2001 cult comedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
The cast includes A.J. Holmes as Jimmy, Ripley as Mrs. Livingston, Richard Kind as Mr. Livingston, Caroline Bowman as Chloe, Doyle as Mark, Kirsten Scott as Lorraine, Nehal Joshi as Pushpahp, Martin Sola as Slim, and Gerard Canonico as Shawn/Todd/Sheriff with Alex Chester and Anita Welch.
According to press notes, “Bubble Boy tells the story of Jimmy Livingston, born without immunities and confined inside a plastic bubble room. When the love of his life leaves town to get married, Jimmy travels cross-country in a homemade bubble suit in order to stop the wedding and finally tell her how he feels. Along the laugh-filled journey he deals with a crazy cult, a biker gang, a dead cow, and a controlling mother who will stop at nothing to get him back in the bubble.”
Paul and Daurio are the writing team behind family films, such as The Secret Life of Pets and Despicable Me.
Feinstein’s/54 Below is located at 254 W. 54th Street. For more information and tickets, visit 54Below.com.
