Breaking Through, according to press notes, "is told through the eyes of a young, talented singer/songwriter, as she tries to navigate the treacherous shark-filled waters of the music business. She embarks on a compelling journey to find her way back to her authentic self and in the process rediscovers the music that truly makes her alive."

Magnusson's credits include last season's Floyd Collins at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, American Idiot at The Vortex Theatre and the films "American Girl" and "Lost Angels."

Directed by artistic director Sheldon Epps, the cast also features Alison Luff (Miss Honey in Broadway's Matilda the Musical), Kacee Clanton as Karina, Robert W. Arbogast as Jed Barnes, David Atkinson as Peter, Will Collyer as Alex, Teya Patt as Gwyn, Katherine Tokarz as Liz and Nita Whitaker as Amanda. Magnusson replaced the originally-scheduled star, Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis, who left for personal reasons. "I am so happy that Matt will be joining our cast and enhancing our wonderful company of actors," said Epps in an earlier statement. "Along with several others involved in the production, I have had the pleasure of working with him before and we are all pleased to have him with us for this world premiere musical. I know that his very special talents will be an exciting and inspiring addition to a production which is already giving me great pride and causing anticipation."

The ensemble features Fatima El-Bashir, Jessica Jaunich, Reed Kelly, Christopher Marcos, Dominic Pierson, Andrew Pirozzi, Terrance Spencer, Laura L. Thomas and Samantha Zack.

The creative team also includes set designer John Iacovelli, costume designer Alex Jaeger, lighting designer Jared Sayeg, sound designer Peter Fitzgerald and projection designer Kaitlyn Pietras.
