Due to advance ticket sales and good word of mouth, P.S. 122 has decided to extend the run of House, written and directed by Richard Maxwell, through Dec. 20.

The play, which continues Maxwell's exploration into the awkward and mundane, opened Nov. 19, after a successful summer run at NY's Ontological Theatre.

Rather than portray defining moments in characters' lives, Maxwell's plays (Burger King, Ute Nos vs. Crazy Liquors, Cowboys and Indians) explore the banality of everyday living, finding humor in the moments where we don't quite know how to react or what to say. Through that perspective, House examines a family's unspectacular awkward response to the murder of the father.

Maxwell also doesn't attempt to seduce an audience into the reality of the situation on stage, continuing more along the lines of Brecht's alienation theories. His actors are real people -- saying lines and moving when they should, portraying the awkwardness of real life people's first experience speaking in public.

The set for House, designed by Jane Cox, is a recreation of the midtown rehearsal space Maxwell used while creating the production. The cast for House features: Laurena Allan, John Becker, Yehuda Duenyas and Gary Wilmes.
