News MCC Theater Announces Titles of Youth Company's 2009 FreshPlay Festival MCC Theater has announced the works to be part of its youth company's annual FreshPlay Festival, July 30-Aug. 1.

The evenings of one-acts penned by teens will play, starting at 7 PM, at The New School for Drama. The FreshPlay Festival is billed as "an evening of original one act plays penned by New York City teens and produced for the stage by a roster of professional directors, actors, and designers."

The 2009 schedule is as follows:

  • Alicia Ramsay's Dear Diary (July 30 and Aug. 1)
    "A teenager in a family torn apart, Clarisse must come to terms with her past." Donya K. Washington directs.
  • Yasha Gruben's Underground Bound (July 30 and 31)
    "On the run from their boss, two drug dealers discover a world beneath the very streets that they run, as well as a secret that could cost them their lives." Joshua A. Kashinsky directs.

  • Cullen Golden's Taking Leave (July 31 and Aug. 1)
    "A soldier on leave from the army struggles to reconnect with his family and find his place in a world that he has left behind." Samantha Tella directs. The MCC Theater Youth Company is a free after-school program for New York City public school students, ages 14-20, who are interested in acting and playwriting.

    The FreshPlay Festival creative team includes Katherine Foster (sets, costumes, and props), Peter Hoerburger (lights) and Daniel Kluger (sound). Laura Mroczkowski serves as production manager, Glenn Grieves is stage manager with Jenna Dempesy as assistant stage manager.
