The McCarter season will kick off Sept. 8 with Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party. Directed by McCarter Theatre Artistic Director Emily Mann, Pinter's comedy about two strangers who arrive at a boarding house in England will play through Oct. 15.
Tony Award winner Garry Hynes will direct the season's second offering, Brian Friel's Translations. The play, which concerns "the forces that bind us and those that tear us apart," will run Oct.8-29.
Alice's adventures in Wonderland will be brought to life through magic, circus and transformational theatre in Lookingglass Alice. Adapted and directed by David Catlin, Alice will play the New Jersey theatre Jan. 9-28, 2007.
The aforementioned Radio Golf will play the McCarter March 18-April 8. The play involves real-estate developers who look to tear down the home of recurring August Wilson character Aunt Esther.
The McCarter season will conclude with Emily Mann's Mrs. Packard, May 4- June 10. The play, according to press notes, is set in 1861, and "after 21 years of marriage and 6 children, Elizabeth Packard’s minister husband abducts her and commits her to a lunatic asylum without proof of insanity." Packard will subsequently play the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The McCarter Theatre is located in Princeton, NJ, at 91 University Place.
