News McG Will Likely Direct Spring Awakening Film "We Are Marshall" and "Charlie's Angels" director McG may bring the Tony-winning rock musical Spring Awakening to the silver screen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol) is working with the musical's Tony-winning lyricist and book writer Steven Sater to adapt the property for film. McG would reportedly direct and produce Spring Awakening on screen.

In addition to directing and producing feature films, including the forthcoming "Terminator Salvation," McG has directed music videos for Smash Mouth, Offspring. He has also co-written and produced albums for Sugar Ray.

Based on the 1891 play by Frank Wedekind, Spring Awakening won eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Spring Awakening features direction by Michael Mayer, choreography by Bill T. Jones, book and lyrics by Steven Sater and a score by Duncan Sheik.

Songs featured in the Tony-winning score are "All That's Known," "And Then There Were None," "Blue Wind/Don't Do Sadness," "Left Behind," "Mamma Who Bore Me," "My Junk, "The Bitch of Living," "The Dark I Know Well," "The Guilty Ones," "The Song of Purple Summer," "The Word of Your Body," "Those You've Known," "Totally Fucked," "Touch Me," "Whispering" and "The Mirror-Blue Night."

The musical is currently on a North American tour and running in London's West End, in addition to numerous international productions.
