McKechnie, Halston and Hoffman Set for Other Voices VIII Benefit Concert

News   McKechnie, Halston and Hoffman Set for Other Voices VIII Benefit Concert Tony Award winner Donna McKechnie, who is currently offering Gypsy in My Soul at Au Bar, will join funny gals Julie Halston and Jackie Hoffman for a benefit concert May 16 at Carolines on Broadway.

Hosted by Shotgun Productions and the Organization for Autistic Research, Other Voices VIII will raise funds for autism research and support the theatrical endeavors of emerging artists. Since its inaugural event, the series of Other Voices concerts has raised more than $67,000.

The evening, directed by Stewart Schulman, begins with cocktails at 6 PM, followed by dinner and auction at 7 PM. The show, featuring musical direction by Alex Rybeck, is set for 8 PM.

Best known for her Tony-winning performance as Cassie in the original Broadway production of A Chorus Line, Donna McKechnie has appeared in a plethora of musicals both on and Off Broadway, some of which include How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Company, State Fair, Can-Can, Annie Get Your Gun, I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking It On the Road, State Fair and Promises, Promises. In her first full length, one-woman musical celebration, Inside the Music, McKechnie performed songs from several of these productions and offered personal anecdotes about her experiences with some of the theatre’s finest actors, directors, producers and writers. A live recording of that act was released on the Fynsworth Alley label. McKechnie is now working on her autobiography — with writer Greg Lawrence — for Simon & Schuster.

Julie Halston's New York theatrical credits include roles in Hairspray, White Chocolate, Gypsy, The Butter and Egg Man, The Vagina Monologues and Red Scare on Sunset. She received a Drama Desk nomination for her work in Red Scare. Also a stand-up comedian, Halston played Bitsy Von Muffling in HBO-TV's "Sex and the City."

Jackie Hoffman received a Theatre World Award for her work in Hairspray. Her other theatrical credits include Book of Liz (Obie Award), Straightjacket, Incident at Cobbler's Knob and One Woman Shoe (Jeff Award). Hoffman has been seen on screen in "Garden State," "Legally Blonde II," "Kissing Jessica Stein," "Large's Ark," "Mo' Money" and "Freaky Friday."
