McNally's Broadway Deuce to Be Offered to Primary Stages Subscribers

News   McNally's Broadway Deuce to Be Offered to Primary Stages Subscribers Although Terrence McNally's Deuce will now play on Broadway, the work that was originally planned as part of Primary Stages' season, will remain in the Off-Broadway troupe's line-up.

In lieu of replacing the work in the company's season, Primary Stages will offer subscribers to the current season reserved seats at the Broadway show. Patrons will be notified with details about how to reserve subscription seats. "Producing this play on Broadway is an exceptional opportunity for both Primary Stages and Terrence McNally, and we are thrilled to offer this incredibly special event to our subscribers," reads a mailing to Primary Stages loyals.

Four-time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury (Sweeney Todd, Dear World, Gypsy, Mame) returns to Broadway to play opposite fellow Tony winner Marian Seldes (A Delicate Balance) in the new McNally work.

Originally scheduled for a March 2007 run at the company's new home at 59E59 Theaters, the work will now begin previews in April 2007 at Broadway's Music Box Theatre with an official opening May 6.

Michael Blakemore (Copenhagen) will stage the work, which centers on two retired tennis players.

Scott Rudin, Stuart Thompson and Maberry Theatricals — in association with Primary Stages — will produce the Broadway bow of Deuce. Another four-time Tony winner, Zoe Caldwell (Master Class), had previously been mentioned to co-star with Seldes. Caldwell read opposite Seldes in a MCC Theatre benefit — where the work was first seen. The duo then appeared at a July 23 reading at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, Long Island.

Primary Stages' current season began with the world premiere of A. R. Gurney's Indian Blood and now continues with Southern Comforts (through Nov. 4). Next, the New York premiere of the Christopher Durang and Peter Melnick musical Adrift in Macao, directed by Sheryl Kaller, is slated for a Jan. 23-March 4, 2007 run.
