News Mel Brooks "American Masters" Documentary to Feature Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Cloris Leachman and More The Producers stars Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane are among the actors featured in the PBS "American Masters" documentary about Academy and Tony Award winner Mel Brooks, which will air in May 2013.

According to PBS, "Brooks has agreed to throw himself into a new documentary about his storied career, giving 'American Masters' exclusive interviews and complete access to his film archives."

Featured in the documentary are Tony-winning Producers stars Broderick and Lane, as well as Cloris Leachman, Carl Reiner and Joan Rivers.

"When they called me to say I had been chosen as the next 'American Master' I thought they said I was chosen to be the next Dutch Master. So I figured what the hell, at least I'll get a box of cigars. When I realized my mistake I was both elated and a little disappointed at losing the cigars," Brooks said in a statement.

Brooks won an Oscar for writing the 1968 film “The Producers”; he also won 2001 Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score for the stage version based on his hit film. His other Broadway credits include Young Frankenstein, All American and Shinbone Alley. Among his film credits are "Blazing Saddles," "Young Frankenstein," "High Anxiety," "History of the World Part 1," "Spaceballs" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights."
