Melbourne Theatre Company has chosen Katherine Thomson's Navigating for the final 1997 production.

Bea Simpson, a capable and trusting lady in her forties, who lives with her sister in the quiet seaside town where she spent her childhood. She takes a job at the local council where she discovers that a council consultant is taking huge kick backs from an American Consortium that is tendering to build a private prison.

When she blows the whistle all hell breaks loose but its Bea who is the centre of the storm. She is promoted to a non-existent position, her boss is having a secret affair which undermines her every move and the local newspaper ends up as mouthpiece for the council.

Isolated and persecuted by the community, under siege in her own home, in fear of her sanity, Bea fights to clear her name. But how far are her enemies prepare to go to silence her?
