News Memorials Planned for Late Bare Composer Damon Intrabartolo in New York and Los Angeles Friends and family of Damon Intrabartolo will gather in Los Angeles and New York in the coming weeks to celebrate the life of the late composer, whose musical Bare resonated with a generation of theatregoers.

Intrabartolo died Aug. 13 at the age of 39. A native of New Jersey, Intrabartolo was living in the Phoenix, AZ, area at the time of his death. He was working on several projects, among them a new musical titled Ride... a pop fable.

A West Coast memorial will take place Sept. 23 at 7:30 PM at the Pasadena Playhouse, while New Yorkers will gather Sept. 30 at 5:30 PM at the St. Clements Theatre. An additional memorial, with dates and location to be announced, will take place in Phoenix, AZ.

"Damon was a truly magical being. He was, without question, a musical genius. From his work on film scores, to his work in musical theatre, he was a powerful presence who, like a lighting rod, lit-up everything that he touched," said Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages) in a statement. "Some of my favorite memories include when he would write a new song and I would sit next to him on his piano bench and watch him play as if he was one with the piano. He was channeling his music from an other-worldly place. There are countless lives that bare has changed and it continues to be produced all over the world. Many young people even say his musical saved their lives. I know Damon has left his beautiful, lasting mark on the planet and I take solace in knowing that his music will live on. He was outrageous, irrepressible, radiant, and probably the most fun person ever. We called each other 'creative soulmates' and my heart is broken over his passing."

RSVP to attend the West Coast memorial is requested at damonmemorial.splashthat.com. Donations to help pay for the Damon Intrabartolo Memorial Services in all three cities can be made online at gofundme.com/49hdks.

* Composer and co-book writer Intrabartolo collaborated with lyricist and co-book writer Jon Hartmere on Bare, which had a 2000 Los Angeles premiere. The musical quickly garnered a cult following and ran through Feb. 25, 2001, at the Hudson Theatre in L.A. It received the 2001 Ovation Award, Backstage Garland Award, LA Drama Critics Circle Award and LA Weekly Award (Best Original Score and Best Musical).

Following the Los Angeles production, Bare began an Off-Broadway run at the American Theatre of Actors (Chernuchin Theatre) March 25, 2004. It opened April 19, 2004, and played through May 27, 2004.

A re-imagined version of Bare returned Off-Broadway in December 2012; however, Intrabartolo was not actively involved. It retained much of his original score with additional songs by Hartmere and Lynne Shankel (Altar Boyz, Cry-Baby, Company). Bare continues to be staged across the world.
