Laredo died of cancer last May, at age 67. Her last concert, on May 6, 2005, was part of her long-running lecture-concert series at the Met, Concerts with Commentary. The series included biographical talks and performances of the works of Brahms, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, and other composers. Laredo was known for her recordings of Scriabin and Rachmaninoff.

The concert will include works by Schubert, Schumann, Franck, and Ravel, including Schumann's "Mondnacht" from Liederkreis, Schubert's An die Musik, and the last movement of the Franck Violin Sonata in A major. The Guarneri Quartet and cellist Paul Watkins will perform, as will soprano Courtenay Budd and pianist Charles Wadsworth, violinist Nicolas Kendall and pianist Pei Yao Wang, and pianists Edmund Battersby and James Tocco. The concert will close with a recording of Laredo performing Rachmaninoff's Prelude No. 4 in D major. Flutist Paula Robison, a friend of Ruth Laredo's, will speak.
