The workshop is co-directed by Michael Arden, who starred in DWT and Center Theatre Group’s Big River on Broadway, and "Smash" star Andy Mientus, who originated a role in the first national tour of Spring Awakening.
The workshop also features movement by Spencer Liff, musical direction by Jared Stein and ASL Translation by Anthony Natale, Shoshannah Stern and Elizabeth Greene. The team, along with a company of both deaf and hearing actors, will "experiment with a selection of key pieces from the show to determine how they can marry American Sign Language with spoken and sung dialogue to tell the story in ways equally accessible to both deaf and hearing audiences," according to press notes.
The workshop will culminate in an invited open rehearsal July 19.
