Michael C. Hall, who recently received an Emmy nomination for his work on HBO's "Six Feet Under," joins the Broadway company of Chicago July 30.
Hall, who portrays the uptight gay brother David Fisher on the acclaimed HBO series, will star as Billy Flynn in Kander and Ebb's musical, which is currently in its sixth year on The Great White Way. Roz Ryan, most recently on Broadway in the short-lived revival of One Mo' Time, also joins the cast that day, replacing Alix Korey as Matron Mama Morton. Ryan has previously played the role on Broadway.
Hall will stay with the Broadway production through Sept. 10, when he will return to California to begin shooting the new season of "Six Feet Under," the hour-long Sunday drama about a dysfunctional family that runs a struggling funeral parlor. Hall was last on Broadway in another revival, when he replaced Alan Cumming as the Emcee in Cabaret. His other New York theatre credits include Macbeth, Cymbeline, Timon of Athens, The English Teachers and Corpus Christi.
Roz Ryan made her Broadway debut in the Fats Waller revue Ain't Misbehavin'. She also starred on The Great White Way in Dreamgirls and in the national tours of Annie, South Pacific and Blues in the Night. Ryan's film credits include "Went to Coney Island," "Cotton Club" and "Dark Indigo." Ryan's Chicago run ends Oct. 27.
The current Broadway company of Chicago also includes Stephanie Pope (Velma Kelly), Belle Calaway (Roxie Hart), Rob Bartlett (Amos Hart) and R. Bean (Mary Sunshine). In related news: Hall will be joined by his new wife, actress Amy Spanger, on Aug. 6, when she joins the Chicago company as Roxie Hart, a role she played in the musical's national tour. Spanger, who starred as Bianca in the Tony-winning revival of Kiss Me, Kate, also appeared Off-Broadway in Jonathan Larson's tick, tick...BOOM!.
Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred Ebb's Chicago, presented by Barry and Fran Weissler, plays the Shubert Theatre, 225 W. 44th Street. It won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking.
