Michael D. Conway plays a young man reflecting on life while awaiting HIV test results to come back at off-off-Broadway's Sanford Meisner Theater in This is a Test, beginning performances Jan. 12. An official opening is set for Jan. 17. Melinda McGraw and Charlie Otte direct.
Using slide projections, graphics, video and audio, This is a Test reflects on a boy raised in Houston, Texas, where he "watched entirely too much TV, drank plenty of Tang, talked back to his mother and ate lots of Swanson's Salisbury Steak frozen dinners." He grows to learn a lot about love, sex, manhood and God, while waiting for his HIV test results to come in.
Conway, who also grew up in Houston, has acted on stage in Los Angeles and on television, playing a lying kleptomaniac housekeeper on "Seinfeld." He is also the co-founder of Atlas Design, an off-beat greeting card company.
Tickets are $20-$15 and available by calling (212) 613-1682. The Sanford Meisner Theatre is located at 164 11th Avenue between 22nd and 23rd Streets.
