Russ Kaplan, one of the composers of the Broadway musical In Transit, hosts the next in his monthly series Russ Kaplan’s Broadway Jazz Session July 9 with a concert consisting of jazz versions of Broadway show tunes performed by rising young stars.
Guest singers for the July 9 installment will include Broadway’s Michael McElroy (Sunday in the Park with George; Big River; Rent) and Aisha De Haas (Caroline, or Change; Rent). Kaplan and his eight-piece band will offer instrumental interpretations of tunes from the current Broadway season—from new shows (Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton) to veterans (Chicago, Hello, Dolly!).
McElroy was nominated for a 2004 Tony Award for his performance as Jim in Big River. De Haas appeared in Rent; Caroline, or Change; and Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, among other Broadway shows. In Transit was nominated for Drama Desk, Outer Critics' Circle, Drama League, and Lortel awards.
The 8 PM Broadway Jazz Session will take place at The Green Room 42, the new club at 570 Tenth Avenue in Manhattan. Tickets cost $20 and can be ordered by clicking here. There is no food or drink minimum. More information is available at Russkaplanmusic.com and Greenfignyc.com/thegreenroom42.
