Veteran Chicago actor Nussbaum, who originated roles in David Mamet's American Buffalo, A Life in the Theatre and Glengarry Glen Ross, will step into the role of Dr. Sigmund Freud (created by Martin Rayner).

Coburn Goss, whose Chicago credits include the world premiere of Vigils and The Crowd You're In With, will play Christian scholar and writer C.S. Lewis (created by Mark H. Dold).

Dold and Rayner created the parts for Barrington Stage Company in Massachusetts, opened the still-running Off-Broadway production and then opened the Chicago run earlier this year. They exit the Windy City April 29. They return to the Off-Broadway production at New World Stages on May 2.

Tyler Marchant directs the play, an imagined meeting of minds — atheist Freud, Christian Lewis — in Freud's London consulting room on the eve of World War II. Within weeks, Freud would take his own life.

Freud's Last Session is presented in Chicago and Off-Broadway in New York by Carolyn Rossi Copeland, Robert Stillman and Jack Thomas. Scenic design is by Brian Prather, costume design by Mark Mariani, lighting design by Clifton Taylor, and sound design by Beth Lake. The Chicago performance schedule is Wednesdays at 2 PM and 7:30 PM, Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2 PM and 8 PM and Sundays at 1 PM and 5 PM.
