The worldwide distribution of the CDs, on the Naxos International label, starts this month with the release of ten CDs in the UK and other European countries. More CDs will be released each month starting in January 2005. They will eventually be available in 57 countries.
"We established the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music to preserve and make available to the world a vast body of outstanding music, much of which was undiscovered or in danger of being lost forever," said Lowell Milken, chairman of the Miken Family Foundation, in a statement. "As we expand our partnership with Nxon International, we can further on of the Archive's original goals by making these treasures available to music lovers worldwide."
The initial UK release includes a CD of highlights from Kurt Weill's rarely heard biblical drama The Eternal Road and albums of music by Darius Milhaud and Leonard Bernstein.
