Eugene O'Neill's rare warm-hearted play, Ah, Wilderness!, turns up at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, opening Aug. 4, following previews that began July 30.
Douglas C. Wager, former artistic director of Arena Stage, directs the coming-of-age play, marking the work's debut on the Guthrie stage. The renowned Ming Cho Lee is the scenic designer of the Connecticut-homelife set.
O'Neill regarded the work as "wishing out loud -- the way I wished my boyhood had been."
The cast includes Nathan Babbs and Liam Kearns (alternating as Tommy Miller), Mia Barron (Belle), Jon Cranney (Salesman), Ron Frazier (Nat Miller), T.R. Knight (Richard Miller), Bill McCallum (Bartender), Grace Olson (Mildred Miller), David Plant (Wint Selby), Peter Smits (David McComber), Kate Skinner (Norah), Maria Thayer (Muriel McComber), Jeremiah Wiggins (Arthur Miller) and Sally Wingert (Essie Miller).
Other designers are Zack Brown (costumes), Allen Lee Hughes (lighting) and Scott Edwards (sound). Performances continue to Aug. 29. Tickets are $16-$39. Call (612) 377 2224 or toll-free (877) 44-STAGE.
