News Miracle Worker Opens Nov. 20 at Denver Center The new Denver Center Theatre Company production of The Miracle Worker, William Gibson's inspirational play about Helen Keller and her tireless teacher Annie Sullivan, opens Nov. 20 following previews from Nov. 14 at The Space Theatre in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

Denver Center Theatre Company won the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre.

Art Manke directs the staging, running to Dec. 20. Annie Sullivan is played by National Theatre Conservatory student Kate Hurster. Making her Denver Center debut is Daria LeGrand (Arizona Theatre Company, Kansas City Repertory Theatre) as Helen Keller.

"Possibly no story has moved audiences more than the courage and determination of young Annie Sullivan," according to DCTC notes. "Annie, a recent graduate from an institute for the blind, is determined to teach wild and disobedient Helen Keller, a child who has been blind, deaf and mute since birth. In 1887 Alabama, Annie senses Helen's curiosity and uses intense resolve and ingenuity to open her world to language and ultimately world fame…"

The cast also includes Marcus Waterman, John Hutton, Rachel Fowler, Jaliah Peters, Mykail Gholston, Jeanne Paulsen, Leigh Miller, Wendelin Harston and Maggie Mirrione. The design team includes set designer Tom Buderwitz, costume designer Angela Balogh Calin, lighting designer Charles R. MacLeod and sound designer Morgan A. McCauley. Music was composed by Steven Cahill; fight direction is by Geoffrey Kent; the dramaturg is Douglas Langworthy. Sarah Felder is the voice and dialect coach.

To accommodate family audiences, The Miracle Worker will be presented at an early curtain time of 6:30 PM for many performances.

Also launching this month from the Tony Award-honored Denver Center Theatre Company is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, adapted for the stage by Richard Hellesen, music by David de Berry, directed by Bruce K. Sevy, Nov. 28-Dec. 27. It opens Dec. 4 at The Stage Theatre.
