News Mom Will Not Go Quietly Into Assisted Living in Moonglow, a New Play in Ann Arbor Michigan playwright Kim Carney's Moonglow will shine at Ann Arbor's Performance Network Jan. 26-March 5 in a world premiere co-production with Lansing's BoarsHead Theatre.

Carney penned the popular 2004 play The Home Team, previously seen at the Network, the major resident Equity theatre in Ann Arbor. She is one of a handful of Wolverine state writers who is regularly produced there. Kitty Dubin and Jeff Daniels are also part of that small club.

"In this comic-drama, Kim blends her trademark humor with exquisite pathos in the story of a woman moving her mother into an assisted living facility," according to Performance Network. "A tough-as-nails spitfire determined not to go quietly, she causes a ruckus, finds a jitterbugging partner and teaches her daughter a valuable lesson before the play is through. Full of music, dancing and love — and based on a true story."

Jim Posante directs a cast that features Carmen Decker (Performance Network debut) as Maxine, Kelly Pino as Diane, Loren Bass as Greg, Will Young as Joe, Steven O'Brien as Sailor, Nora Bonner (Performance Network debut) as Girl, and Cassaundra Freeman (Performance Network debut) as Benita.

Kim Carney is an award-winning playwright whose work has appeared throughout Michigan, as well as in New York and California. Her most recent plays, The Home Team and Maggie Rose, were recently produced at Performance Network. Other Michigan productions include Labor Day, Only Me and You and Nooner (at Jeff Daniels' Purple Rose Theatre), Photographic Memories (at BoarsHead and the Baldwin Theatre in Royal Oak), Bombshells (also at the Boarshead and The Theatre Company), Life Is A Beach (Millenium Theatre), I Love Christmas (1515 Broadway) and Lib (Planet Ant).

A graduate of Wayne State University's theatre department, Carney received its 1998 Alumni Achievement Award. The creative team of Moonglow includes scenic and properties designer Monika Essen, lighting designer Joshua Fisher, costume designer Darcy Elora Hofer and sound designer Ken Faulk.
