News Monk, Bryggman, Blaemire and Oscar to Star in Lapine's Mrs. Miller for Vineyard Playhouse Tony Award-winning actress Debra Monk will star in James Lapine's Mrs. Miller Does Her Thing at the Vineyard Playhouse, beginning Sept. 18.

The workshop presentation of Lapine's latest play will officially open Sept. 20 and continue through Oct. 4 at the venue on Martha's Vineyard.

Lapine also directs his work, which features choreography by Lisa Shriver (Ring of Fire) and musical direction by Michael Starobin (Sunday in the Park with George).

Monk (Curtains, Steel Pier) stars as a faded 60's pop singer in a cast that also features Tony nominee Larry Bryggman (Proof), as well as Glory Days creator Nick Blaemire, Molly Camp, Carly Hughes, Jacqui Polk (Spelling Bee), Eric Santagata (The Apple Tree) and Brad Oscar (The Producers, Spamalot).

"It's 1966, the midst of the Vietnam War and the beginnings of the counter-culture movement; an off-pitch, matronly 59 year-old singer suddenly emerges at the top of the music charts winning fame as the worst pop singer of all time," according to press notes. "Loosely based on the life of Elva Miller, this is a surprisingly contemporary look at pop culture and the public’s fleeting fancy with the novelty of the moment."

The creative team comprises Stephen M. Zablotny and Paul Munafo (set design), Jennifer Caprio (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design) and Dan Moses Schreier and Jim Novack (sound design). For tickets and further information phone (508) 696-6300, or visit VineyardPlayhouse.
