The director-designate said he plans to consider a composer-in-residence initiative and to program works by John Adams; OPMC managers admitted that the orchestra is lacking in contemporary repertoire.

Princess Caroline of Monaco, OPMC board president, said Kreizberg's engagement with the orchestra in February resulted in favorable responses from musicians.

Kreizberg is currently the music director of the Netherlands Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras, and the principal guest conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He previously led the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra from 1995 to 2000; from 1994 to 2001, he was the Generalmusikdirektor of the Komische Oper Berlin.

The St. Petersburg-born conductor studied with Ilya A. Musin before emigrating in 1976 to the U.S., where he worked with Bernstein, Ozawa and Leinsdorf. He has conducted the Philadelphia, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Staatskapelle Dresden, BBC Symphony and London Philharmonic Orchestras, among many others.
