News Montego Glover, Clay Aiken and the Newsies Helped Celebrate Daryl Roth and Family Equality Council The cast of Newsies, Tony Award nominee Montego Glover and "American Idol" finalist and Broadway actor Clay Aiken delivered knockout performances May 8 during Family Equality Council's Night at the Pier celebration.

Aiken, who made his Broadway debut in Monty Python's Spamalot, performed "This Is the Moment" and "Home," while Memphis Tony nominee Glover belted out "Love Will Stand" from that Tony-winning musical. The cast of Newsies also delighted the sold-out crowd with a concert version of the new musical's "Seize the Day."

The one-night-only event, which celebrated the Family Equality Council's 30th anniversary, also honored Tony-winning Normal Heart producer Daryl Roth and Freedom to Marry CEO Scott Davenport.

Roth was presented with the Hostetter-Habib Family Award for her continued support of the LGBT community. Broadway producer Jordan Roth made a surprise appearance in order to present his mother with her award.

Honoree Daryl Roth told Playbill.com May 9, "It was a proud moment for me to be honored by the Family Equality Council at their 30th anniversary celebration last night, and be presented the award by my son Jordan. As a parent and grandparent, I believe in their mission that all families deserve equality, protection, and respect and unconditional love. Family Equality Council is working to make our society a stronger, safer, and more loving environment for all of our families, gay and straight. This is something worth supporting."

Singer-actress Glover added, "The Family Quality Council is such an outstanding organization, so committed to strengthening our communities. I was overjoyed to celebrate its 30th anniversary." The Family Equality Council is a national organization that connects, supports and represents the one million parents in the U.S. who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.
