News Montgomery and Robinson to Star in Fringe Rock Musical Rings A new sci-fi space/rock musical, Rings, will premiere at this year's New York International Fringe Festival, Aug. 14-29.

Les Vegas, who wrote the comedic musical, will also direct, with a cast led by Falsettos' Jay Montgomery and Phantom of the Opera's Stacey Robinson. The company will also feature Richard Rice Alan, Pamela Vanderberg, Mark DeLaBarre, Shani Lynn Neilsen, Stacy Bono, Marie France-Arcilla, Sheridan Wright, Zach Sorrow, Bianca Ryan, Uriel Mensen and Michael Leonard James.

Set 50 years in the future — in the rings of Saturn, on Mars and the moon — Rings, according to production notes, concerns "an old Rocker (Montgomery), who can’t get a decent gig on earth because he rejected a deal given to him by Rev. Spike (Stacey Robinson). He is now relegated to playing the outer planets. He finds himself questioning the meaning of life and his significance, all while reuniting with the love of his life and fighting off evil, with the assistance of his virtual assistant (Vanderberg), and about 10 billion nanobots."

Rings will feature animated computer graphic sets designed by Peter Anders and projected by Marco Ferrero. Jon Samorian is the production's musical director.

Jay Montgomery was seen as Whizzer in the Broadway and Los Angeles companies of Falsettos. He also appeared in the national tour of that William Finn musical, and his regional credits include productions of Evita, Company, Kiss of the Spider Woman, 1776, Chess and Oklahoma! A graduate of Juilliard, Stacey Robinson made his Broadway bow in The Phantom of the Opera. He has also appeared in productions of Show Boat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Big River, La Cage aux Folles, Carmen Jones and Children of Eden.

Rings will play Aug, 14, 15, 20, 26 and 29. Tickets, priced at $15, are available by calling (212) 279-4488. For more information visit www.FringeNYC.org.
