News More Animals Out of Paper: Second Stage Extends NYC Run of Joseph Play Second Stage Theatre has extended its Uptown Series presentation of Rajiv Joseph's Animals Out of Paper by one week, now through Aug. 24.

Kellie Overbey, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Jeremy Shamos star in the work which began previews July 14 at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre. Giovanna Sardelli directs. Opening is Aug. 4.

"When a world renowned origami artist opens her studio to a teenage prodigy and his school teacher," as show notes reveal, "she finds that life and love can't be neatly arranged in this drama about finding the perfect fold."

Ambudkar's credits include Rafta Rafta and The Me Nobody Knows, Overbey appeared in Good Boys and True and The Coast of Utopia and Shamos was seen in Reckless, 100 Saints You Should Know and The Rivals.

The design team includes Beowulf Boritt (scenic), Amy Clark (costume), Josh Bradford (lighting) and Bart Fasbender (sound).

Joseph — an Uptown Series vet of last year's All This Intimacy — penned Animals Out of Paper as part of the Second Stage's Time Warner Commissioning Program. Carly Mensch's Len, Asleep in Vinyl — which played through June 22 — launched the company's sixth Uptown Series earlier this summer. Previous playwrights presented include Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Adam Bock and Brooke Berman.
