As previously announced, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio will be part of the production, which begins previews Nov. 19 prior to an official opening Nov. 29. According to the Donmar's official website, Mastrantonio — most recently on Broadway in the Man of La Mancha revival — will be joined onstage by Sarah Annis, Gillian Bevan, David Birrell, Martyn Ellis, Daniel Evans, Paul Hazel, David Lucas, Graham Macduff, Joseph Noble and Sevan Stephan. Grand Hotel will play through Feb. 12, 2005. The Tony Award-winning musical by Luther Davis and the Kismet team of Robert Wright and George Forrest features additional music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Maury Yeston. Michael Grandage will direct, with Christopher Oram’s designs and lighting design from Hugh Vanstone. Choreography will be by Matthew Bourne regular (most famously as the Swan in Bourne’s award-winning Swan Lake) Adam Cooper, with Jae Alexander as musical director and Terry Jardine as sound designer.
Grand Hotel began previews at the Martin Beck Theatre Oct. 16, 1989, later transferring to the Gershwin Theatre. The musical played a total of 31 previews and 1,017 regular performances. Directed and choreographed by Tommy Tune, the original cast featured David Carroll, Karen Akers, Jane Krakowski, Michael Jeter and Liliane Montevecchi.
