The 8 PM performance will be held at the Centralia Fox Theatre in Centralia, WA. Ted Weiant directs.
All proceeds will go toward the restoration of the Fox Theatre. The Centralia Fox Theatre was built in 1930 and is a model of the art deco period. Historic Fox Theatre Restorations plans a full restoration of the theatre and a major upgrade of its technical theatrical equipment. A reopening is planned for the theatre's 80th birthday in September 2010.
Love Letters, according to press notes, "centers on two characters, Melissa Gardner (Moreno) and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III (Culp), as they read the hilarious and poignant letters that have passed between them throughout their lives. . . . [The play] paints a vivid portrait of two charter members of the privileged set, as their relationship unfolds from what is written — and what is left unsaid — in their letters."
The work premiered at Connecticut's Long Wharf Theatre in 1989 with Joanna Gleason and John Rubenstein and has been performed all around the world. Laura Linney and Steven Weber starred in a television version of the play.
A.R. Gurney's plays also include The Dining Room, The Cocktail Party, The Perfect Party, Another Antigone, A Cheever Evening, Sylvia, Ancestral Voices and Buffalo Gal. He is the recipient of a Drama Desk Award, a Rockefeller Award and two Lucille Lortel Awards. A native of Humacao, Puerto Rico, Rita Moreno won the Academy Award for her role as Anita in the film version of West Side Story. She earned a Best Featured Actress in a Play Tony for her work in Broadway's The Ritz and nabbed two Emmys: one for a guest appearance on "The Muppet Show" and another for a stint on "The Rockford Files." She was awarded the Grammy for her performance on "The Electric Company" album for children.
Robert Culp began his successful television career in the late 1950s. He is perhaps best known for his roles in "I Spy, "The Greatest American Hero" and "Everybody Loves Raymond."
