News Morgan Freeman's Actress Granddaughter Slain in NYC Actress E'Dena Hines, the step-granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman, was stabbed to death early Aug. 16 in front of her home at West 162nd Street in Manhattan. She was 33.

Her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport, was charged with murder and was being held at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center Sunday evening for psychiatric evaluation. Freeman issued a press statement saying, "The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

Hines appeared in several films, including "Moll Flanders" (1996) and "5 Flights Up" (2014). Her film "Landing Up" is scheduled to be released next year.

Several press reports said she had appeared on Broadway in the 2012 revival of A Raisin in the Sun. There is no record of her appearance in that production, though Playbill.com found that she did appear that year as Beneatha Younger in a production of the play at Westport Country Playhouse.
