Founded last year and currently on its first East Coast tour, Formalist will play, in its only New York concert appearance, Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 11 and Janšcek's "Kreutzer Sonata" Quartet, plus music by Bach and Stravinsky. The group's program also includes recent works by Ori Barel, Aaron Helgeson, Ryan Tanaka and David T. Little.

The Nachtmusik series is intended to bring performances by emerging classical musicians to Washington Heights and Inwood. Upcoming concerts include those by soprano Katherine Whyte, the 2007 Alice Tully Vocal Arts Debut Recital Award winner, and Hinrich Alpers, the 2007 William Petscheck Piano Recital Debut Award winner.

The October 26 concert is also the last public opportunity to view Henry Lopez's first solo exhibition, Articulations of the Cache Memory, a series of 12 images created from manipulated negatives and mixed photographic gels.
