Classic Arts News Mostly Mozart Festival Offers Free Preview Concert Tonight The Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center in New York kicks off tonight with a free preview concert at Avery Fisher Hall.
Music director Louis Langr_e conducts Mozart's first and last symphonies: the Symphony No. 1, composed in 1764-65, and the Symphony No. 41 ("Jupiter"), composed in 1788. The concert opens with the Kinder-sinfonie ("symphony for children" or "toy symphony") by Mozart's father, Leopold.

Mostly Mozart's official opening night is Tuesday (August 1), when music director Louis Langr_e leads the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra in Mozart's "Coronation" Mass, with soprano Hei-Kyung Hong, mezzo Susanne Mentzer, tenor Matthew Polenzani and bass John Relyea. The program also includes the composer's Piano Concerto in D Major, also called "Coronation," with Garrick Ohlsson as soloist.

Tonight's concert will last approximately 75 minutes, with no intermission.
