Producers Tom Kirdahy, Roy Furman, Paula Wagner and Debbie Bisno, and Barbara Freitag and Loraine Alterman Boyle are in discussions to bring McNally's play on a national tour with further details to be announced at a later date.

The work received 2014 Tony Award nominations for Best Play and Leading Actress in a Play (Tyne Daly). In addition to its two Tony nominations, Mothers and Sons was nominated by The Drama League for Outstanding Production of a Play, and Daly was nominated for her performance by The Drama League, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle.

Mothers and Sons marked McNally's 20th Broadway show and 50th year on Broadway and was directed by Tony nominee Sheryl Kaller (Next Fall). Previews began Feb. 23, and opening night was March 24.

Tony and six-time Emmy Award winner Tyne Daly, Obie and Drama Desk Award winner Frederick Weller, Tony Award nominee Bobby Steggert and Grayson Taylor star.

McNally will next be represented on Broadway with the revival of It's Only A Play. Read more about the upcoming production. The design team for Mothers and Sons included scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Jess Goldstein, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

Mothers and Sons, according to press notes, "is a timely and provocative new play that explores our evolving understanding of family in today's world. At turns funny and powerful, Mothers and Sons follows a woman (Daly) who pays an unexpected visit to the New York apartment of her late son's ex-partner (Weller), who is now married to another man (Steggert) and has a young son. Challenged to face how society has changed around her, generations collide as she revisits the past and discovers a new connection she never expected."
