News Motown Tour Will Play Detroit, Los Angeles, Atlanta and More The national tour of Motown will make a homecoming when it plays the Fisher Theatre in Detroit during its upcoming national tour, which launches this April at Chicago's Oriental Theatre.

Charles Randolph-Wright directs the musical, about the life of recording pioneer Berry Gordy, which is brimming with songs made famous by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five. It has a book by Gordy.

The tour will play Chicago's Oriental Theatre April 22-July 13, with an engagement at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit Oct. 21-Nov. 16. Additional stops include Minneapolis, MN (Dec. 16-28 at the Orpheum Theatre); Fort Lauderdale, FL (Feb. 24-March 8, 2015, at the Broward Center); Los Angeles, CA (April 28-June 7, 2015, at the Pantages Theatre); Houston, TX (July 21-26, 2015, at the Hobby Center); Atlanta, GA (Aug. 18-23, 2015, at the Fox Theatre); and Charlotte, NC (Aug. 25-Sept. 6, 2015, at the Blumenthal PAC).

Casting for the tour has not been announced.

"I feel honored to bring it home – to the people who really know me. This is where it all began. I am incredibly proud of this show and thrilled to share our story with those of you who already know it and, even more, with a new generation of Detroiters."

Motown opened at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre April 14, 2013. 

Motown has scenic design by David Korins, costume design by ESosa, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Peter Hylenski, projection design by Daniel Brodie and choreography by Patricia Wilcox (Blues in the Night) and Warren Adams ("Toy Story"). Motown features arrangements and orchestrations by Ethan Popp, with co-orchestrations and additional arrangements by Bryan Crook, dance arrangements by Zane Mark and music direction by Joseph Joubert.

Gordy produces the musical along with Tony winner Kevin McCollum (Rent, In the Heights, Avenue Q) and Sony Music CEO Doug Morris.
