MTC's "Stargate Theatre: A Defining Act" Premieres Tonight on PBS

News   MTC's "Stargate Theatre: A Defining Act" Premieres Tonight on PBS Public television network THIRTEEN is broadcasting the premiere of "Stargate Theatre: A Defining Act" Feb. 19 at 10 PM ET; check local listings. The TV special follows the young men who participated in Manhattan Theatre Club's program for court-involved youth last year.

Founded by MTC, the Stargate Theatre Company immersed court-involved youth in a theatre program in order to help them cope with and overcome negative factors in their lives. During the summer of 2015, company members composed, rehearsed and performed an original play, Deeper Than Skin. The show was inspired by their own personal writings and explored themes of identity, family, community, racism and injustice. "Stargate Theatre: A Defining Act" follows the young male participants from their auditions to the final performance at New York City Center’s Stage II. The film chronicles their personal journeys and highlights their different experiences with the juvenile justice system.

After the initial broadcast, the full film will be available for online streaming at wliw.org and thirteen.org.

"Stargate Theatre: A Defining Act" is a production of WLIW LLC in association with WNET. Mary Lockhart is the film's director, Ally Gimbel is producer, and Diane Masciale is executive producer. John Servidio is executive in charge.
