News   Murray, Baldwin, Jerome, Wolpe and Moore to Be Part of Project Shaw Reading

A reading of The Doctor's Dilemma, the latest installment in Project Shaw, will be presented March 19 at the Players Club.

The cast for the one-night-only reading of George Bernard Shaw's play will feature Brian Murray, Kate Baldwin, Patricia Conolly, Brent Harris, Timothy Jerome, Simon Jones, Howard Kissel, Malachy McCourt, Sarah Moon, Charlotte Moore, Mark Saturno, Michael Schulman, Michael Tisdale and Lenny Wolpe. Jeremy McCarter will host; show time is 7 PM.

The Doctor's Dilemma, according to press notes, "follows one Mrs. Jennifer Dubedat who loves and idolizes her brilliant artist husband, Louis, who is dying of tuberculosis. She goes to a doctor and convinces him to save her husband. The doctor can keep only so many patients, and must choose who is worth saving, but is convinced that Louis' artistic talents make him worthy. But when he and several colleagues meet Louis, they discover that he is in fact a smooth-talking money-grabbing scoundrel. They also learn that he has another wife, whom he has abandoned. So, the doctor has a problem: he can let Louis die, leaving Mrs. Dubedat with her idealized image, or save him and his artistic talents, but force her to face his many flaws."

Project Shaw will continue April 23 with Androcles and the Lion with Seth Rudetsky as the former and Bruce Vilanch as the latter. The Christians, who will be thrown to the lions, will be played by critics Charles Isherwood, Roma Torre, Michael Riedel, Howard Kissel, David Cote, Michael Musto, Rex Reed and Michael Kuchwara.

The Project Shaw series is produced and directed by David Staller, who acted with Dana Ivey in Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession at the Irish Repertory Theatre. Dates stretching throughout 2007 and beyond will provide an airing of every sketch, full-length and one-act play by the playwright.

Past participants include Blair Brown, Daniel Jenkins, Rebecca Luker, Michael Cerveris, Karen Ziemba, Michele Pawk, Jack Gilpin and George S. Irving. The Players is located at 16 Gramercy Park South.
