Dixon Place will present Jess Barbagallo’s collection of theatrical short stories, titled My Old Man (And Other Stories), this fall. The piece, set to debut in October, is a new commission from the downtown theatre.
The show was conceived as a “surreal comedy,” according to Dixon Place, featuring “whimsical characters looking for emotional connection.” The stories are inspired by pop culture and pulp entertainment, and our universal need for love. Performances will run October 7-22.
“This is the first time I am not sharing the director’s chair with anybody, focusing on finding the right staging for my own writing,” says Barbagallo, who also directs, in a press statement. “But strangely enough, My Old Man (And Other Stories) is more of a collection of short stories from a queer universe.”
The cast features Monica Wyche, Gabriella Rhodeen, Aron Canter, Cecilia Gentili and Drae Campbell. The creative team includes sound designer Chris Giarmo and actress Emily Davis.
Dixon Place is located at 161A Chrystie Street, New York. Tickets are $18 in advance, $22 at the door and $15 for seniors and students, and can be purchased by visiting DixonPlace.org or by calling (866) 811-4111.
